It’s a couple weeks past the Valentines Day holiday, but since we’re still in the month of romance and the heart we here at the Cult Film Club thought it would be fun to share our top five favorite heart wrenching ripping scenes from cinema!
#5 – Friday the 13th Part 6: Jason Lives (1986)
To kick off this list I thought I’d start with one of my favorite scenes from one of the first horror films I ever saw. Even at 10 years-old when I first saw this I knew Ron Palillo’s character Allen wasn’t long for this world. I mean they cast Horshack in a horror film. It was pretty satisfying seeing Jason punch a hole through his chest, ripping out the heart in the process. This was also a changing point in the franchise in terms of the cartoony level of gore and violence, a welcome addition if you ask me…
#4 – My Bloody Valentine (1981)
I didn’t catch up with this flick until the late 2000’s, but when I did I fell in love. This quirky Canadian horror flick is an under-appreciated gem that deserves way more love…
#3 – Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984)
For sure this flick was my first experience with intense gore, and my first real experience with heart ripping insanity. Kali-ma!
#2 – From Dusk Till Dawn (1996)
If there’s ever been a film that balances horror and comedy to a pitch perfect balance it has to be From Dusk Till Dawn. One of my favorite sight gags in the film is when Fred Williamson pulls the heart out of a vampire and Tom Savini stakes it with a pencil…
#1 – Dumb & Dumber (1994)
And finally, my favorite heart ripping scene has to be during the dream sequence in Dumb & Dumber. This was Jim Carey at his comedic peak and love how insane the dream fight is. If you’re gonna rip someone’s heart out, might as well put it in a doggy bag for them, right?!
LOL. When I saw the title, I was not expecting a literal interpretation!
At the Cult Film Club we are all about literal interpretations! Seriously though, after watching the Game of Thrones episodes with the horse heart eating scene I felt like I had to do a list like this…
Forgot about Dusk till Dawn. Nice one.
And yes, D&D deserves #1. Insane and the doggy bag is the perfect punctuation for that.
Is it insane that we haven’t covered that flick on the CFC yet (From Dusk Till Dawn), I mean it’s imbedded in our branding and everything!
