This month on Cult Film Club extends our winter/Christmas-y festivities as Jaime Shawn and Pax talk about Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas from 1993. Diving into our first animated film on the CFC, we figured it would be best to start out with something weird, odd, and twisted, an though it’s a beloved holiday movie these days, boy howdy does it cover all three prerequisites.
We talk about our first exposure to the movie, our favorite characters, our favorite songs, the soundtrack and the widespread influence this movie had on pop culture. Is this cult? Well, this is one of those films that helps shape that definition as it was sort of a financial letdown for Disney in its original theatrical run, and then gained a huge following over the following 23 years turning into the beloved classic that it is today.
