Cult Film Club Episode 42: No Retreat, No Surrender

Welcome back to another episode of the Cult Film Club!  This month we’re taking a look at the 1986 Karate Kid clone No Retreat No Surrender starring Kurt McKinney and one of the first feature roles of Jean Claude Van Damme.  This movie is one of co-host Paxton’s favorites, so we’re glad to finally tackle it.  Though it’s by far no Karate Kid, it is captivatingly bonkers in that it involves a crazy ring of mobsters shaking down local karate dojos, an impeccability dressed Russian kickboxing champion (Rocky IV anyone?), and the freaking ghost of Bruce Lee. Fangoria Covers Trick or Treat

One of the fun aspects of cult film fandom is digging through old film-centric magazine back issues to find articles and interviews about our favorite flicks.  Not only do these provide some interesting at-the-time insights from the directors, cast and crew, but they can also be a treasure trove of behind the scenes photos and deleted material that never ended up in the final cut of the film.  These old magazines were as close as we got to DVD/Blu-ray special features back in the 70s and 80s.
