Pax discusses 6 of his mega-crushes from the 1980s

Lori Loughlin (Secret Admirer, The New Kids, Full House) – I saw Lori first in Secret Admirer, then I saw her in The New Kids (both movies are from 1985).  Loved her in both.  The New Kids is more of a dark thriller and Secret Admirer is a great 80s teen comedy.  She was really pretty and cute with AWESOME hair but she may be even hotter NOW.  If you haven’t seen Secret Admirer (here’s the trailer), you really need to.  It’s an awesome 80s teen romantic comedy.  It’s got 80s teen tropes galore, but it’s really funny.  It was also the first time I saw Mrs Travolta, Kelly Preston.  And Fred Ward as Preston’s cop father is hilarious.

Heather Thomas (Zapped!, Fall Guy) – Most famous for the “bikini poster” you see above. She was also in the movie Zapped! as well as the TV show The Fall Guy.  Two of my favorites.  I mean, take a look at her up there.  She is just amazing.  In 1987 Thomas also appeared in a low budget sci-fi/motorcycle flick called Cyclone.

Cindy Morgan (Caddyshack, TRON) – Her first role was as the sexy Lacey Underall in Caddyshack.  She exuded sexuality in that movie and it was her first major role.  Next, Cindy was one of the first nerdishly hot chicks as Lora in the classic movie TRON.  Two completely different aspects of hotness and she pulled off both.  She’s still attractive and makes appearances at Sci-Fi conventions all over the country.

Debra Clinger (Midnight Madness) – I love the movie Midnight Madness and by extension I love Debra Clinger in that movie because she is so sweet and cute you just want to hug her.  Look at those f’n DIMPLES!  In 1979 Debra did the voice of Elisa in the Rankin-Bass Jack Frost and starred in a TV show called The American Girls with Priscilla Barnes.  You Sid & Marty Krofft fans may recognize her as Superchick from Kaptain Kool and the Kongs as well as several other Krofft shows.

Lucinda Dickey (Breakin’, Breakin’ 2, Ninja III: The Domination, Cheerleader Camp) – Breakin’ and Breakin’ 2 will forever be two of my favorite movies.  And Lucinda is pretty hot in them, especially Part 2. But she really showed her hotness in Ninja III: The Domination (which Jaime and I talk about in full for the Nerd Lunch podcast).  She played an aerobics instructor possessed by a deadly ninja.  Tell me that’s not super hot and I’ll call you a LIAR, sir.

Nicole Eggert (Charles in Charge, Baywatch) – Nicole starred as the oldest Powell daughter on Charles in Charge (named Jamie, or course!).  Nicole would also famously star as one of the Baywatch babes in the 90s.  I was in love with her and if I started watching Charles in Charge because of my fondness for the movie Zapped!, then I kept watching it because of Nicole.  And Jennifer Runyon.  And Erika Eleniak.  Nicole dated and even was engaged to Corey Haim for a while.  Corey and Nicole together made several movies including a bizarre, erotic thriller called Blown Away in 1993.  It featured Corey Feldman and copious amounts of Nicole and Haim nudity.  But, like I said, the movie is BIZARRE.

Whoa, whoa, whoa! Where are Cindy’s photos? =)
I got to meet her a few years ago at a local con. She was great and still one attractive lady! She’s one of the few celebs that will interact with fans over Twitter too.

      Fixed!

Thanks for fixing the images Shawn. I had every intention of doing it and time got away from me.

        • http://www.brandedinthe80s.com/ Shawn Robare

No problem, I noticed they weren’t displaying properly on the site which is weird ’cause they looked fine in the wysiwyg…

          • http://twitter.com/Dex1138 Dex

I hope you guys know I mentioned that with tongue firmly in cheek…and maybe because I’m still crushin on her a teeny bit.

          • http://www.brandedinthe80s.com/ Shawn Robare

I figured, but as and ye shall receive!

Secret Admirer is winging it’s way to me right now via Netflix and I can’t wait to see it. I had a crush on Lori from her appearance in Rad, and of course there was some required viewing of Full House as well.

      Have Mercy…

She also played Black Canary in one episode of the short lived Birds of Prey TV series.

      • http://www.brandedinthe80s.com/ Shawn Robare

Wait, what! Dammit, are you going to make me rent that show?!?

        • http://twitter.com/Dex1138 Dex

It wasn’t so bad as far as I remember?

          • http://www.brandedinthe80s.com/ Shawn Robare

Honestly I think I only watched the first 20 minutes of the pilot. For some reason it just didn’t work for me. I probably should give it another shot…

          • http://twitter.com/Dex1138 Dex

It could also be that it had some attractive ladies in it and I have lower quality standards for TV in that case (see also: Charmed)

          • http://www.brandedinthe80s.com/ Shawn Robare

            LOL!

  • http://www.shezcrafti.com/ ShezCrafti

I look at that Heather Thomas bikini poster and I just want to quit life. For failing as a woman.

I could probably say something similar about Ryan Gosling.

Phoebe Cates in Fast times at Ridgemont High which is in my top 10. in the fantasy scene with Judge Reinhold, she was also in Gremilns. And Christina Applegate from Married with, she made a movie called don`t tell mum the babysitters dead. Which is I still quote `the dishes are done man.` Found the full scene from Fast Times http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iNrVxbYUX18

Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead is one of my favorite cheeseball teen comedies of the 90′s. She was super hot in that movie. And I had a bit of crush on Kenny. Especially after his transformation to “Kenneth.” LOL! What is it with Keith Coogan and movies about babysitting…?

      • http://www.brandedinthe80s.com/ Shawn Robare

Right! I also loved him as the loner Toy Soldiers (though he was kind of a douche…)

    • http://www.brandedinthe80s.com/ Shawn Robare

I love Don’t Tell Mom! I saw that as a double feature in the theater with The Rocketeer…

  • http://twitter.com/paxtonholley Paxton Holley

I was this close to including Phoebe Cates. Her Fast Times bikini scene was EPIC.

    Nice list!
They are all worthy candidates and my personal list would definitely include a couple of those as well. You forgot to mention that Lori Loughlin was in Rad.
Elisabeth Shue would be at the top of my list for sure. After that, it might be too difficult to narrow it down to just 6.

    • http://twitter.com/paxtonholley Paxton Holley

You are right, she was in Rad but as I’ve never actually seen that movie I don’t really know her from there. I only tried to list the things I personally knew them from.

Dustin is right. Phoebe Cates probably has the best body of any teen star from the 70s-80s. Damn Kevin Kline for interrupting her “lots of nudity” phase!

Kelly Preston and Betsy Russel are my other two favorites from that time frame. If you’re talking about flat out beauty (albeit a bit older than teen crushes), it starts and ends at Jennifer Connelly. Best body I’ve ever seen and one of the most beautiful faces to go with it (not to mention a great actress).
